British contemporary artist Mary Grant, will be running two classes every Friday. You can choose from Still Life Painting in the morning (9:30am-12:30pm) or Landscape Painting (1pm-4pm) in the afternoon (1pm-4pm).

The classes will take place in a light and airy self-contained classroom within our studio.

Still Life Painting
Friday morning’s 3 hour course will provide a perfect introduction to a variety of still life subjects including:

Shells
Reflective surfaces
Cacti and plants
Fabrics
Shoes
Teddies and toys
Fruit
Cutlery and crockery

Each morning the students will work on one study of their given subject in either charcoal, watercolour , grafite pencils or pastels.

The students will then progress within the morning to work on a complete full painting in acrylic on canvas. This will help to develop an appreciation of light, tone, sculptural tone, form and texture from each subject. Each piece will be produced on the same size of canvas . The students will have 8 completed paintings at the end of the course.

All materials and tools are provided, as are refreshments. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come basis.

Landscape Painting

In this Friday afternoon course students will begin by working on a quick study initially inspired by our immediate surroundings on the farm. Each week students will produce:

One study in either charcoal , watercolour, grafite pencils , ink and sticks or pastels.

One completed landscape painting, always of the same size so that at the end of the course the student will have 8 completed landscapes to take home and exhibit and cherish.

Throughout the course the students will be given tips and techniques on preparing their canvas, deciding on the subject and will gain knowledge of their materials.

We will talk about perspective and composition. We will be painting occasionally outside in the surrounding landscape and the course will involve some walking so steady shoes and appropriate clothing is required.

The course is structured to produce a landscape painting per week. One of the most productive ways to spend a Friday afternoon.
